Ooooh, it’s hot! Today’s high temp will be 34C/94F. With the humidity, it’ll feel like 49C/120F. It kind of gives a new meaning to the term BBQ Town, doesn’t it? Here are some tips for handling the heat:

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit urges residents to follow these steps:

• Drink plenty of water.
• Go to an air conditioned place.
• Wear a hat and lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
• Take a cool bath or shower.
• Limit outdoor activities to the coolest part of the day.
• Check on your neighbours and family.
• Never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles.
• If you feel ill, faint, have difficulty breathing, or feel disoriented, visit your doctor or nearest hospital right away. In an emergency, call 911

Summer Swimming Notice!!

To kick off summer, municipal outdoor pools across Chatham-Kent will offer After School Swims from 4:00-6:00pm on June 26 to June 28, and special Open Swims from 1:30-4:00pm and 6:30-8:00pm on June 29.

Municipal outdoor pools will open with their regular schedules June 30.

New this summer, the Jaycee “Play Pool” will offer Chatham-Kent families a new water-play experience. Featuring loads of new water toys and a beach-front entry, it’s sure to be a favourite destination for young families with preschool age children. The Jaycee Play Pool opens June 25 and will offer free swimming daily from 10:00am-3:00pm until August 24.

Through generous donations, a number of free swims will be available at all pools this summer. The Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Recreation Programs Division would like to extend a special thank you to all our sponsors.

There’s no way to know if or prove that first century bones (assuming they are, in fact, from the first century) are those of Jesus and his family. If he was still in the grave - and we’re told he left it - somebody from that time would’ve produced his corpse to dispel the claims of Christianity once and for all time. Everything hinges on the resurrection. If it didn’t happen and he’s still dead, the world is minus its Saviour.

On March 31, The Great Debate will take place at the newly-renovated Pines Chapel in Chatham. The topic ‘Does God Exist?’ will be argued between Dr. Tony Costa, a Christian apologist from Toronto and Dr. Jeffrey Noonan, an atheist and head of the Philosophy Department at the University of Windsor. The debate begins at 7pm and admission is free. Al Baker recently caught up with Dr. Noonan, not to debate the issue of God’s existence, but to get a sense of Dr. Noonan’s ideas. Since yesterday was so nice, I decided to take a stroll along the shore of Rondeau Bay - and to my utter shock, what did I see? As I live and breathe, there sat Chatham Chuck sunning himself! What a treat! He scurried away mere seconds after I snapped this pic but I’m sure he’ll be back out tomorrow with a prediction for winter. What will it be? Six more weeks of winter or an early spring? Only the shadow knows for sure. Talk to you in the morning. Happy Groundhog Day in advance.
